iWeb Websites Setting up New Website Files
The very first time iWeb is opened, it will ask to create a page for the new website. Many choices are available from the templates in iWeb. Depending on the design to fit the theme will determine the page to choose. For demonstration purposes, I will choose a blank page. A site is established at the same time as the page is established. To name the site click on site in the side bar.
This will produce a window requiring certain information listed below.
Publish to: Provides three options a local folder, a FTP address and Mobile Me.
Site Name: What the name of your site is, this one is Dreamweaver Test.
Email: Place your email address in this location.
Folder location will display when publish to local folder has been selected. The local folder, is the location of the iWeb file on the computer.
When FTP Server is selected it will ask for the FTP Server Settings, Server address, a user name password that has been established with your Host. The directory/path is usually a backslash. ( / )
The protocol is FTP, once the information has been placed in the required places use the Test Connection button to ensure everything is working properly.
The Website URL is the name of the website’s domain (Example http://www.eyetoi.org ).
When update Facebook is checked, automatically Facebook is updated to changes published to the internet.
To use MobileMe, a Mobile Me account requires certain information.
Once the site has been initiated with its first page, there is an option to add more pages to the site. The pages become third tier pages, behind the site name. To create another category to the existing site, create a new site naming the site the category name. All pages contain the domain name in iWeb, the site name as the category or level two pages, followed by level three the page name.
Once your first domain has been established and you would like to create a whole new site, click on the finder. In this window choose library, next choose application support, finally choose iWeb.
A window will open with a file called domain. Iweb automatically looks for this file called domain and opens this site which will always be the name of your site. To create an all new domain site click on domain and move it to the desktop so there are no files in this iWeb site. Next, open iWeb, you will be asked to create a page from the template. Once that page has been chosen it will register the site in the iWeb folder named domain. Click on the word domain and rename it with another name such as template. Then move the domain file placed on the desk top back into the file. I
Click on the template file and hit duplicate, then rename the duplicate the name of your new domain. This creates an all new website. To create additional sites, duplicate the template and rename it accordingly.
